What to do in La Rochelle?

Our holiday village is ideally located facing the Atlantic and near the city center of La Rochelle. You can reach the center on foot, by public transport or by bike. In the historic center of La Rochelle, you can discover the Tour de la Lanterne, the Tour Saint-Nicolas and the Tour de la Chaîne, but also, many private mansions, the arcaded streets, the Grosse Horloge and the Porte Maubec. La Rochelle is a maritime city, so there are no less than four ports to discover: the Old Port, the commercial port of La Pallice, the marina of Minimes and the fishing port of Chef-de-Baie. Enjoy the invigorating air and ocean spray on the beaches of La Rochelle (Concurrence, Minimes), and the surrounding areas of Houmeau, Aytré or Châtelaillon.

The museums of La Rochelle

In La Rochelle, there is no shortage of cultural spaces. There are no fewer than 3 museums that you can visit all year round. We recommend the "Maritime Museum" where you can browse the exhibitions that trace the port history of La Rochelle over the centuries. Continue your exploration with the "Natural History Museum" which presents the coastline with its fauna, flora, fossils and collection of minerals, as well as vestiges from many eras. And finally, discover the "New World Museum", an establishment that illustrates the relations that France, and in particular La Rochelle, has had with the Americas since the 16th century.

The Aquarium of La Rochelle

The Aquarium of La Rochelle is a must-see during your stopover in our charming city. There are no fewer than 12,000 marine animals and 20 shark specimens spread across more than 70 seawater aquariums to discover. Young and old alike will be amazed by this spectacle!

The towers of La Rochelle

La Rochelle is known for its three towers that mark the entrance to the old port: the Lanterne, Saint-Nicolas and the Chaîne. The Lanterne tower was built at the end of the 12th century, it is the last medieval lighthouse on the Atlantic coast. The Saint-Nicolas tower and the Chaîne tower frame the entrance to the Old Port.

The island of Ré

Awaken your senses as you explore the unspoilt and wild Île de Ré. Explore the island's ten villages, discover the bell tower of Ars-en-Ré, climb to the top of the Phare des Baleines and its museum, explore the salt marshes, and observe the fauna and flora of the Lilleau des Niges National Nature Reserve.

The island of Aix

This pearl of Charente-Maritime is worth discovering. This little corner of paradise is accessible by boat and no cars circulate there. It will take you 2 hours of walking to go around the island. When exploring this preserved island, you can stop at one of the 4 museums, on one of the 5 fine sandy beaches or near the island's hidden fort.

The island of Oléron

The island of Oléron is nicknamed "The Luminous". During an excursion on this jewel of the Atlantic, you will discover the Château d'Oléron, its oyster port, its shrimp port and visit the Citadel. You should definitely not miss the Chassiron Lighthouse, from where you will get a superb view of Oléron, the island of Ré, the Atlantic coast and the ocean.

Fort Boyard

From the port of La Rochelle, you can set off by boat and get as close as possible to Fort Boyard. This legendary fort, dating from the 19th century, was intended to protect the entrance to the Charente. Now, for over 30 years, the famous shows of the same name have been filmed in this exceptional location.

Rochefort

The port of Rochefort is known for being the home port of the famous frigate "Hermione". During your exploration of the city, you will discover the Corderie Royale, the Musée Hèbre, or the Fort Liédot. From this charming city, you can reach the island of Aix and go by boat to discover the Fort Boyard

The Poitevin Marsh

By bike, by boat or on foot, you will awaken all your senses during the visit of the Marais Poitevin. In the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the same name, you will appreciate a diverse and resplendent fauna and flora. Let yourself be enchanted by the calm and the green decor of the Marais Poitevin. 

Brouage

Among the most beautiful villages in France, discover that of Brouage. This charming fortified city is a stopover not to be missed during your stay in our holiday village. Brouage will offer you many hiking trails and a pleasant climate. You may be lucky enough to observe herons, ducks, but also white storks.
